Lucille is a writer and sculptor living in Glasgow. Their practice combines mad studies, psychoanalytic patterning and performance art to form a hybrid model of healing through creativity.

Lucille’s research expands medical histories—particularly in therapeutic contexts—rooting exercises in asylum culture and locating the historical practice of “moral treatments” within systems of class and institutional power.

Their work investigates the link between wealth and access to care, exploring how the financialisation of medicine continues to shape our concepts of recovery, madness, and the body.

They have a background in play-work within SEN schools and nurseries, alongside event and workshop facilitation in institutional settings including Cecil Sharp House, BFI, Rio Cinema, and Conway Hall.

Lucille hosted Earland Weekend at Listen Gallery in March 2024, developing Primal Humm in response to the activities held during that event. They continue to work with breath work, humming, and improvised melodies, building toward an evolving concept: the Animal Improvisation Network—a iterative performance structure relying on participation and group dynamic.

Lucille’s soft sculptures—creatures from imagined places—accompany this work, holding space for sensitivity.

They have recently collaborated with Dr. Sharron Young, facilitating embodied art practices at the Glasgow Women’s Library, Glasgow School of Art, and the Swedenborg Institute.

And have recently worked with Dr. Jessica Campbell (University of Edinburgh) on a research project exploring artwork produced in Scottish psychiatric asylums during the 17th and 18th centuries.
